I had the recto one, and when I tried a Fat mod, it seemed to have way less gain and attack, and sounded pretty useless to me.

At home, I am running the unit's output straight into the effects loop return of 2 Marshall Artist 30 heads 2xEL34 into 2 Carvin 2x12 Legacy cabs with Vintage 30s. It's not that it sounds bad, it sounds fine. It just doesn't give me that raw edge that my current preamp a Peavey Rockmaster! It has the stock Mesa preamp tubes that the previous owner said would need replacing but how do you know when preamp tubes need replacing, aside from microphonics?
